DIY Scooter Stereo

I guess doing it yourself is the only way you would get a stereo into a scooter.

Brian Ducharme has a great piece on integrating a stereo into your scooter so that you can share your passion for ABBA with passersby as you see fit. He includes rather detailed instructions for ripping apart your scooter and installing PCWorks speaker system into whatever nooks and crannies its design will allow. Or, you know—headphones and an iPod. Brian tells us it can be done for less than $100, though, so if you have an electric scooter you use with some frequency, this might be of some interest to you

Actually, there’s a few folks who sell kits for scooter stereos. Scooterworks has a 50 watt kit available for $300 that works with Stella and PX Scooters.

I sell a 300 Watt Scooter Stereo kit that works with any Front loading glovebox scooter for $200 (installation is free, but you got to send me the glovebox itself. Self installatio’s also really easy as the kits arrive pre-assembled) at http://www.scooterstereo.com.

The kits are rigged up so all you have to do is use a portable music device (anything with a headphone jack works) into the player.

For vespa and PX, there’s also completed chrome systems available for $450.

My kits DO NOT require any power from the scooter, and were designed for use with classic bikes like old school Vespas or Lambrettas. Finally, I spent all summer beta testing these and can state that a 50 watt system can NOT be heard unless your scooter is idle. That’s why my kitts are 300 Watts, so you can hear good tunes at any speed.
