Venom Pic Leaked!!!!

Nov 14th, 2006 Posted in comics, movies, nerd culture, press, sci-fi | Comments Off

Los Angeles gossip websites Defamer and TMZ.com reported tonight on the highly illegal leakage of an unfinished trailer for “Spider-Man 3.” The trailer, which can as of this writing be seen on Defamer and Google Video, features new footage and incomplete special effects shots from the hotly anticipated Sam Raimi film, including a finished, crystal clear shot of the film’s version of Venom.

The trailer was apparently rejected by Sony Pictures and thusly not finished, although its origins are betrayed by the Ant Farm watermark, which can be seen prominently throughout the video. An award winning trailer-cutting house, Ant Farm explained to TMZ.com that both they and Sony Pictures do not believe the leak came from their company. Indeed, after a trailer is created, copies travel through a complex network of industry offices, making it impossible to guarantee security with any real certainty. Unfortunately for Sony, even if the thief is caught and prosecuted, it’s unlikely that in the age of viral video, they’ll ever be able to fully reign in the illegal distribution of the unfinished trailer.

Dell Gives XPS the Quad Treatment, Updates 30-inch LCD

Nov 14th, 2006 Posted in nerd culture, press, technology, toys | Comments Off

In case your dual-core desktop was starting to show its age, Dell is now letting you cram a quad-core processor inside its top of the line XPS desktop. The new XPS 710 packs Intel’s Core 2 Extreme QX6700 quad-core CPU, letting you throw any multi-threaded app you can find its way. For expansion, the desktop has four memory slots and seven expansion slots comfortably fitting as many video cards as you can afford. Dell’s 30-inch LCD also got a few upgrades. Click through for the update and pricing.

The new UltraSharp 3007WFP-HC now has a 92 percent color gamut, which Dell claims will deliver brighter, crisper colors. It also has a faster 8ms grey-to-grey response time (vs 11ms on the old panel). All this goodness is gonna cost you though. The XPS (available today) will start at $3,699 while the monitor (which will be out the 21st) will go for $1,699. We’re particulary excited about the LCD, as there’s few multi-threaded apps in our library to justify splurging close to $4 grand on a desktop.

Jackman “Prefers” Singer to Direct Wolverine Movie

Nov 13th, 2006 Posted in comics, movies, nerd culture, press, sci-fi | Comments Off

IESB briefly questioned X-actor Hugh Jackman a.k.a., Wolverine, and confirmed that veteran super-movie director Bryan Singer is his top choice for the Wolverine movie. But will Singer have time to do both Superman II AND another X-Film?

IESB: About a month ago, you said you might have news on who you would prefer to have direct Wolverine. Recently, Bryan Singer has said he was offered to direct it, doing more research I am hearing it’s been you hoping to get Bryan to direct it.

Hugh Jackman: Well, the…(laughing)…the thing is it’s all in negotiations, I can really…there is a list and Bryan is, sort of, at the beginning of it, so, of course, he’s in the loop. So, but, it is too early for me to say.

IESB: The fact that he [Bryan Singer] is talking about it…

Hugh Jackman: I think it’s great, we’ll see the way we go, and now we have the script and now we really need to work out who is the best person for it. But, you know, Bryan has always been in the loop, for us.

IESB: Is the plan still to shoot [Wolverine] mid-year next year (2007)?

Hugh Jackman: No, I’m meant to finish Baz’s [Lurhmann] movie, the end of August, my guess is that Baz might just go til September…well, who knows, I think we’ll go for the beginning of ’08. That way…I need to have, my idea for Wolverine, I want to have four months clear before I start shooting, ‘cause I want to be in shape, the physical shape, I have never been in before.

Oakland A’s New Ballpark to be Tech’d Out

Here is a tidbit for you sports and technology junkies out there (like me). The Oakland Athletics (see: baseball) are having a new ballpark built in Fremont, California. Cisco Systems will be the primary funder of said ballpark, so you can expect some high tech features in this ballpark.

Some of the crazy high-techness include electronic tickets stored on cellphones, immediate instant replays from the bleachers via laptops, Wi-Fi access and digital advertising displays that change based upon buying habits of people walking by. Better watch out, your wife may not know that you enjoy buying fetish porn, but these ad displays will.

If you’re cool you’ve already picked up the Xbox 360′s HD-DVD drive to watch all those high quality Hollywood movies in stunning high definition. What’s even better is that, with some potentially illegal software, you can plug the Xbox 360′s HD-DVD drive right into your Windows-based PC and enjoy high def movies on your computer! Literally, all one needs to do is install the (illegal?) drivers then plug the drive in the drive and you’re all set for a night of movie watching.

File this under, why would anyone want to do that? Because they can.

My Sister… a pocono mom

Nov 10th, 2006 Posted in personal | one comment »

My sister (Neil’s cousin, and the only granddaughter in the family) moved to PA years ago. She lives near Bushkill, on a mountain where they hunt deer for food and live in a wooden shack with no indoor plumbing. OK, that’s a lie… but that’s what I pictured when she said that’s where they were moving to.

Living in PA, it has not been easy for her. The isolation, having to travel miles to a “corner” store. I don’t understand how she deals with that. I need the city… I need the noise and clammer. Police sirens, and the occasional homeless person singing music at the top of his lungs. I would miss it so much.

To keep in touch with her friends back in the real world, and to let people know what happening in her life she started a blog. She is not as technical as Neil or myself so I have been helping her out with tweeking the site to make it the best it possibley can be. You can check it out here.

Hopefully you will enjoy it, as much as I have been helping her create it.
