Mississippians will vote on a “personhood” ballot amendment Tuesday that would define life as beginning at the moment of fertilization, which would ban abortions as well as some types of birth control.

Personhood USA is a Colorado-based group that has been running a nationwide campaign to get states to define a fertilized human egg as a person, which would effectively label all abortions as murders. In Mississippi, Personhood Mississippi founder Les Riley drafted a ballot initiative called “Yes On 26” that collected over 130,000 signatures to get the measure on the ballot.

Today we learned that it’s more important to win a college football game than it is to bring a known child abuser to justice.

Let that sink in for a second.

Today we learned that the Penn State Athletics department covered up for a child abuser. Two men are to be indicted for knowing that one of their own was actively abusing children. Not just any children, but the neediest of children, in a foundation he had set up that was supposed to protect them.

We have reached a point where it is more important to “win” and protect those who help you win, rather than protect children.

For years, I had always been dubious of college athletics and the benefit they have for schools. How could it be possible for an athlete to get a full ride, when perhaps the next great scientist could have gotten that ride instead? The stories we have heard about college professors being under pressure to pass star athletes and look the other way. Stories of students receiving gifts in various and creative hush hush ways to avoid the “oversight” of the NCAA.

Now we can see the true extent of how dangerous college athletics are. Now, all of the naysayers who defend college athletic programs as they drain their schools of money, as they ignore the nerds on campus and reward jocks should hang their heads in shame. Shame on you for being part of the problem.

Maybe now, it should dawn on people that college athletics has to change. But, it will not. Like all scandals in the NCAA, this one will fade out of memory as the fictional myth of a national title become “important again”.

The sad thing is that I am sure there is more than one fan who might actually be thinking to himself right now (without ever saying it out loud)”yeah… if we could the national championship, I’d be okay with that.”

A Halloween-themed graphic featuring a zombie President Barack Obama with a bullet hole in his forehead provoked widespread outrage and the attention of the Secret Service Monday after a local Republican committee in Virginia used it to scare up interest in Halloween parade political activities.

The montage, a banner on a mass email to Loudoun Republicans, mingles seasonal images including a jack-o-lantern, a disfigured U.S. Rep. Nancy Pelosi and a throng of flesh-hungry zombie Obama supporters.

….

The image was first reported in a post Monday on the conservative northern Virginia blog, Too Conservative. The post’s author, identified as a “Loudoun Insider,” said he’s no Obama fan, “but putting up a photo of him as a zombie with a bullet hole in his head?”

“Someone should send this to the US Secret Service,” the blog post concluded. The Secret Service is in charge of the president’s security.

So… read around the Internet today and everyone will have you believe that either A) ZOMG loans are 100k+ and are out of control or B) shut the fuck up, I worked through college and have no loans and you are a loser for taking your loans.

And do you know what we realize… that ONCE AGAIN… the middle class… the average citizen in American, has been suckered into a fight of extreme left versus extreme right. The two extremes that don’t give a shit about you and me, the average American.

You see, the extreme right… they can pay for everything they want/need. It’s easy, they just roll up their sleeves and elbow grease it, amiright? Or maybe, they just get a check written for them and then they are done & done.

The extreme left, well they just need a gub-ment hand out for their extreme levels of debt (100k plus) and then they will be done and done, amirite? You see, they were ENTITLED to get that expensive liberal arts degree just as much as mr right wing was, aren’t they?

But let’s talk REALITY for a second. The REALITY is that sane, middle class, moderate citizens in this country tend to take on what they can AFFORD. Usually this involves a small reasonable loan, which tends to be a federal subsidized or unsubsidized loan, because HEY, Lord knows they can’t qualify for the 100k+ loans from private institutions. And even if they could, what sane, moderate sensible middle class American would sign on for such a thing? No really… if you got halfway decent grades, you have to understand that this kind of money is absurd. There is no education, including Harvard, that would be worth 100k in rape you in the ass student LOANS. Not for a bachelors degree, no way.

So why, then, is it that we are faced with extreme pictures of distorted reality AGAIN, by the extreme LEFT wing and the extreme RIGHT wing who seem so adept at pulling our strings every day? Why do we fall sucker for these idiotic pictures of paper with magic marker on them?

Here is what I say. College prices are rising. There is no doubt about this. It’s a problem. It is the job of every moderate minded American to find ways around that problem. Because, while the LEFT will get their handouts from the government, and the RICH will get their tax breaks for being rich (or find some other fancy loophole), WE… the MAJORITY, will need to do what we ALWAYS do in America, and what we have ALWAYS done in America. We will learn to improvise.

Take me for example. I got one of those $100k educations that everyone is talking about. I went to a prestigious private University, New York University. I am proud to be an alum; it meant a lot to me to be able to go. However I did not do so in a traditional manner. I waited before going to school until I was in the workforce already. I attended a program within the university that was geared towards working professionals. I was lucky, I had a skill (IT) that I could exploit for good money prior to getting a degree. This enabled me to work while I was in school. Naturally, what I made didn’t cover the tuition, which tended to range between 8 & 10k per semester. I never took more than 12 credits. I utilized Federal Student loans (which I could not be turned down for, thank God for those). I used those loans for what I couldn’t pay, hence coming out of school with loans just south of $40k for a $100k valued degree. My payments are extremely reasonable, with a low interest rate and are now consolidated. I believe I can pay as low as 200something per month if I need to. I can also apply for hardship or out of work deferments which are fairly easy to enact.

This isn’t earth shattering stuff. It doesn’t boggle the mind. It is a good, common sense approach to a problem. But the middle class moderates of America don’t go around making placards. We don’t scream “look at me” on the Internet because we want to be overly dramatic about an issue. We are too busy living our lives to blame others and to engage in a class warfare that frankly will only result in the MIDDLE CLASS losing as the poor grab more and the rich grab more.

I for one am sick and tired of it. Maybe the LEFT and the RIGHT need to learn how to stop crying like babies, grow up and solve their problems. Stop looking to politicians to do it for you.

So… some overly sensitive PC police created this “campaign” to alert anyone thinking of buying a costume that you could be insulting someone by doing so. Who am I going to insult? The bombing people culture?! I think this is hilarious actually. The PC-police state that continues to grow in America every day never ceases to amaze me. Maybe it’s just me, but I appreciate offensive humor.

Someone might say “well that is because you are white” and I would say NO, douchebag, that is because I have a sense of humor. In fact, I never understood the big hubbub over mascots. Naming a team the redskins isn’t offensive. It’s in good fun. You might say “why not name a team the Guineas?” and I would reply to you (being half Italian) that I would find that hilarious, and would root for that team double hard if they were from my home state of New Jersey!

That is why the Internet has struck back and made a “meme” of this campaign. Parodying it with all sorts of characters… my favorite:

Pat Robertson provided a statement Monday afternoon that some may consider a “pot meets kettle” moment.

On the latest installment of The 700 Club, the televangelist the televangelist admitted that even he believes many in the Republican Party have shifted too far to the right.

“I believe it was Lyndon Johnson that said, ‘Don’t these people realize if they push me over to an extreme position I’ll lose the election?’” Robertson said. “Those people in the Republican primary have got to lay off of this stuff. They’re forcing their leaders, the frontrunners, into positions that will mean they lose the general election.”

He added: “You appeal to the narrow base and they’ll applaud the daylights out of what you’re saying and then you hit the general election and they say ‘no way’ and then the Democrat, whoever it is, is going to just play these statements to the hilt. They’ve got to stop this! It’s just so counterproductive!”

It is telling that Robertson, a man renowned for his myriad of controversial comments, believes that the party he supports needs to scale back on its fervor. These comments are significant because Robertson was a co-founder of the Christian Coalition, which became the most powerful faction of the Republican Party in the 80s and 90s.

Within days of the coalition of free & democratic nations helping to rid the world of Moammar Khadafy, the fruits of their labor have been revealed more fully: Sharia Law and another religious state added to the world. While it is not clear whether Libya could become the next Iran, it’s “interim” leader’s words are surely no comfort to those in the western world.

During a ceremony Sunday marking an end of Libya’s eight-month civil war, Mustafa Abdul-Jalil, chairman of the National Transitional Council revealed the country will be ruled by Sharia law.

Islamic Sharia law, a controversial code for living that governs observant Muslims’ lives, will be the “basic source” of legislation from now on, said Abdul-Jalil.

Existing laws that contradict the teachings of Islam will be nullified, he said.
