Gateway is showing gamers some love by not only ramming the Core 2 Duo inside their new FX530XL, but also overclocking it for you. The FX530XL comes with a 2.93GHz Core 2 Extreme X6800 processor that can be factory overclocked to 4.2GHz. The system will also support Intel’s quad CPUs when they start making their appearance. We especially like that Gateway is backing their overclocked CPUs with a full warranty and will replace them should anything go wrong. For $4,999, they better.

Sony’s smashed the 2-pound barrier with its Sony Vaio G1, a 1.98-pound carbon fiber laptop that the company calls “the lightest fully usable notebook ever produced.” Despite that feather weight, it still has a 12.1-inch display, 1.5GB of RAM and an 80GB hard drive.
Unfortunately, its 1.2GHz Intel Core Solo processor isn’t going to set any speed records, but we’ll forgive this slim little jewel for that, which still is just 2.46 pounds light even with its DVD-RW drive inserted and a double-capacity 12 hour battery inside. Available in Japan in the first week of December at around $2000, you can pre-order it now for US delivery from cool-tech importer Dynamism.
This one stirs our techno-lust, especially since we find a 12.1-inch screen particularly useful for airborne computing while crammed into munchkin-sized airplane seats.

This is one hell of a deal from Office Depot. They are offering the Hanns-G GW191D 19-inch widescreen LCD monitor for $160 out-the-door. No rebates, no BS, just the LCD for cheap.
The GW191D has a 1440 x 900 native resolution, 5ms response time, 300 cd/m2 brightness, 700:1 contrast ratio, DVI inputs, integrated speakers and a three-year warranty. The product webpage says that the monitor is currently on “Low Availability,” so it may be hit or miss, depends on where you live. If there is no luck online be sure and check the actual store to see if they have any in stock. This is too good of a deal to pass up

Remember that super-small iPod Shuffle v2.0 from the Showtime event well over a month ago? The good news is that this player is finally shipping. Way too long after it was announced, in my opinion. Nevertheless, it is still a nifty little MP3 player, and it is made by Apple, so we can’t hate on it for too long. Go pick it up from an Apple Store or order it online—just in time for the holidays.

We’re eagerly waiting for the day the Wii hits store shelves, but till then, we have to satisfy our craving with news like this. The UK’s EDGE magazine has lifted the curtain on Nintendo’s plans to release a premium Wii with DVD movie playback. The Premium Wii will only be available in Japan and it won’t be of the Blu-ray or HD DVD variety, but having the ability to play regular DVDs on the Wii is an add-on we wouldn’t mind having.

Ashok Amritraj’s Hyde Park Entertainment and Capcom Ltd. are developing a new movie based on the popular videogame franchise “Street Fighter,” says Variety. Screenwriter Justin Marks has been hired to adapt.

Hyde Park and Capcom — Japanese publisher of “Street Fighter” — will produce the film in a joint venture.
The movie will focus on the game’s most popular female fighter, Chun-Li, but the exact storyline is being kept under wraps.
In 1994, Universal released a Street Fighter movie starring Jean-Claude Van Damme that featured most of the characters from the game.
Hyde Park and Capcom’s film is targeted to be released in 2008, the 20th anniversary of the game franchise.
Marks just completed writing Voltran for producer Mark Gordon.

Reuters reports that Activision’s Marvel: Ultimate Alliance was the top game last week:

A video game which lets players pick a dream team of Marvel super heroes flew in its debut week into the No. 1 slot on UBS Securities’ weekly U.S. list of best-selling video games.
Activision Inc.’s “Marvel: Ultimate Alliance” pits Marvel teams against Dr. Doom and the newly reformed Masters of Evil, who have launched a bid for global domination.
Available on most currently available systems, the title has won strong critical reviews. Versions for Sony Corp.’s PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Co. Ltd.’s Wii are expected next month, when those consoles are also expected to be released.
